    The Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) celebrated their sixth annual year-end Celebration Banquet on June 4th at Michelangelo’s. Over 300 MVC athletes, coaches and their families enjoyed a buffet dinner followed by team and individual awards, coach citations and scholarships, slide shows and alumnus keynote speaker Hannah Vulsteyke of Mercyhurst University.     MVC Athletes Selected for Ontario Elite Summer Programs
    Ten athletes with the Mountain Volleyball Club were identified and seven selected to Ontario Elite Summer Programs. MVC 17U team athletes Madison Bowles and Megan Duffy of Burlington and Ella Carter of Hamilton were selected for Team Ontario Black.  Over 700 male and female players were evaluated for Team Ontario and the High Performance Centre. Thirty two female athletes were selected to attend the final Team Ontario Black Selection Camp on June 1st and 2nd in Toronto, including MVC 17U's

    MVC Recognized at OVAtion Awards
    Mountain Volleyball Club volunteers were recognized at the Ontario Volleyball Association OVAtion Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet held in Barrie recently. OVA Recognition Award recipients included Mountain Volleyball Club coaches Dan Byckalo (Burlington), Steve Felker (Hamilton) and Meagan Nederveen (Dundas); Peter Stratford (Burlington) was recognized with the Developmental Coach of the Year Award and Jos Nederveen and Nancy Castura (Dundas) were inducted in the OVA Hall of Fame as Builders.

    MVC Medals at East Coast Championships
    The Mountain Volleyball Club had outstanding Ontario Provincial Championships results and followed up with more medals at the 36th Annual East Coast Championships in Pittsburgh. This U.S. regional and national qualification tournament draws over 200 teams in multiple age divisions from across the Eastern seaboard. The MVC 12U won the Bronze medal in the Gold Division, placing third overall. The MVC 12U team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington, Elvisia Maga of Binbrook and Peter Wehmeyer

    MVC Medals at Ontario Championships
    The Mountain Volleyball Club finished another successful season at the Ontario Volleyball Association Provincial Championships winning four Silver medals with multiple best performances out of hundreds of teams competing. The  MVC 12U team was ranked eleventh going into the 12U Ontario Championships and finished fifth in Tier 2.     MVC athletes to compete in Ontario Summer Games
    Three Mountain Volleyball Club athletes have been selected for the OVA Region 3 (South Western Ontario) Indoor High Performance 14U Team competing at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games. Hamilton resident athletes Frances Cooke, Payton Lightfoot and Olivia Dmitrovich were selected from amongst the top players in their age division at Regional Selection ID Camps and will start training at the University of Guelph in July.     14U Black Earn Gold Playing Up at 16U Trillium C
    The Mountain Volleyball Club 14U Black team played up two age groups and went undefeated to win the Gold medal at the 16U Bugarski Cup - Trillium C in Kitchener. In pool play, the MVC 14U Black defeated Smash Teal 15U 25-16, 25-17 and cornered the Grimsby Vipers 25-11, 25-22. In the quarter-finals, MVC 14U Black tamed the Kitchener Tigers Red 20-25, 25-22, 15-4 and the Ancaster Lions 25-13, 25-15 in the semifinals.
