Mountain Volleyball Club is proud to announce its Head Coaching Staff for the upcoming 2017/2018 Indoor Season!

  1. 17U
    Larissa Byckalo-Puhach
    This will be her sixth year as a MVC head coach. As a player, she played club volleyball for five years, and was a team member of the 2006 Division 2, Tier 1 National Champions. At the varsity level, she played on the McMaster Marauders Women’s team for five years, contributing to three OUA Finalist medals (2007, 2009 and 2010), and an OUA championship medal (2008), culminating in a 6th place finish at Nationals (2008). Also with this team, she was a two time OUA First Team All-Star (2010, 2011); team MVP (2010, 2011); two time CIS Academic All Canadian (2009, 2011); and nominated as McMaster’s Athlete of the Year (2011). In 2011, Larissa was also named the McMaster Women’s Volleyball Therese Quigley Player of the Year. Recently, Larissa was assistant coach to the NTCC Gold winning 16U Team Ontario (2015), and is an assistant coach of 17U/18U Team Ontario Canada Games in 2017. Outside of club volleyball she is a high school team coach. In 2014, her junior girls’ team were Halton Champions and she was named HSSAA Coach of the year.

    Steve Felker
    This is Steve’s fourth year with MVC, and his third as head coach of this team. Originally from Newfoundland, Steve competed in various age divisions as a team member of several school and provincial level championship teams. After moving to Ontario, he became involved with the Hamilton Express Volleyball Club, winning a provincial title. He has been a part of the McMaster University Womens’ Volleyball team coaching staff, having won two OUA championships, most recently in 2014. Steve enjoys volleyball year round, and plays within adult beach leagues throughout the summer.

    Peter Stratford
    Peter has coached at the school and club levels for many years. He has coached elementary volleyball for the past 22 years, and has won five all Halton championships. He began his involvement with MVC as a coach six seasons ago, and his teams’ winnings include multiple tournament titles, two silver medals, and a gold medal at the OVA championships (U12 – U15). Prior to that, he coached with the Waterdown Raiders for five years, culminating in a silver medal at the U15 National Championships. In addition to being the MVC Vice President, he is also the Course Director at the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre (OELC – Elementary Athletics 3). Peter was also recognized for his volunteering and coaching excellence with an OVA Recognition Award (2013) and the Syl Apps Volunteer Achievement Award (2012).
  4. 15U (Co-Coach)
    Wally Verschoor
    This is Wally’s fifth year as an MVC Coach. Wally is also an elementary school physical education teacher in Dundas. At his school he coaches several sports including volleyball. He has had several school league championships as a coach. Wally has also coached competitive minor league hockey in our community.
  5. 14U Black
    Dave Lightfoot
    This is Dave’s third year coaching at MVC, and he brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. Dave spent four years as a member of the Mohawk College Mens’ team, and was named an OCAA all star for two of his four years there. He travelled extensively throughout North America as a player with the Hamilton Express Mens’ A and AA club teams, winning Eastern Canadians, and competing at Nationals as a member of teams that placed within the top four numerous times. Dave was named to the all star team twice at this level. At the varsity level, he played for McMaster University for 1 year, and was named an OUAA all star during that year. As a school coach, Dave has coached Ryerson Middle (elementary) and Westdale High (secondary) to 8 city championships and 3 OFSAA appearances. Dave has also coached at varsity level, as an assistant coach of the McMaster Marauder men's team for one year, and the Marauder women for two. Prior to that, he was a co-coach at Mohawk with the womens’ team for five years, and was named Co-Coach of the year.
  6. 14U Maroon
    Elaine Pilgrim Susi
    Elaine Pilgrim-Susi has been coaching elementary school level volleyball for over 20 years with both girls and boys teams. She is a Level 1 NCCP certified coach. Elaine has been involved in athletics her entire life and still continues to play competitive co-ed volleyball and baseball. Elaine was the previous President and Past President of the MAC Boys Rep Volleyball club and has been involved with Rep volleyball for over 8 years. She is passionate about the sport and believes in developing the player both on and off the court. As an Elementary School Principal and educator for over 25 years, she has a strong knowledge and understanding of working with adolescents, nutrition and sports. She is currently also a Rep Soccer Coach with the Ancaster Soccer Club. Elaine is excited to be a part of the MVC team!
  7. 13U (Co-Coach)
    Albie O'Hanian
    Albie is an elementary school teacher in his third year coaching at MVC. He coached Boys and Girls Junior and Senior teams at the Hamilton Hebrew Academy, and is a member of the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board for 13 seasons. In those 13 seasons his teams won 29 city championships and became the first school ever to win all 4 championships in one season. He started a grade 4-6 volleyball league for teams in the school board with a lighter ball and lower nets and it is now in its 6th season with 16 schools participating.

    Karen Graham
    ​This is Karen’s third year coaching for MVC. Karen was a multiple sport athlete in high school and played varsity basketball and soccer for McMaster University. She has officiated hockey, basketball and volleyball. Karen has been working on her NCCP level 1 qualifications in both basketball and volleyball. Karen’s undergraduate degrees in Physical Education, Education and Physiotherapy results in her ability to contribute in unique ways to team fitness, short and long term injury prevention and mental skills training.
