Our Philosophy

Mountain Volleyball Club
Entering its 14th season, MVC was founded by Jos Nederveen and Denis Levesque to promote the sport of volleyball and to provide an opportunity for female athletes to develop their skill level through participation in a positive, competitive volleyball environment. MVC head coaches are NCCP certified and often include returning MVC alumni and eventually participants from the MVCCP program.

The Mountain Volleyball Club provides opportunities for female athletes to develop their skill level by participating in a competitive volleyball environment that:

  • Trains athletes for regional, provincial and national competition
  • Supports players, coaches and parents to grow their knowledge and understanding of volleyball
  • Encourages athletes to learn new skills and achieve team and individual goals
  • Provides novice athletes a positive introduction to volleyball
  • Ensures players, coaches, and parents strive to act in a manner reflecting respect for themselves, their families, their coaches, their teammates and the Mountain Volleyball Club.
MVC offers several
introductory programs for novice athletes as part of the St. Mary Volleyball Program (MVP).  This includes MVP VolleyTotz (grades JK-3), MVP House League and MVP Summer Camps (grades 3 to 8) which are all offered at St. Mary’s Secondary School.  Beach volleyball training is also offered at the Sandbox facility in Hamilton.
Beach volleyball training is also offered at the Sandbox facility in Hamilton, for more information on this please go here to the Hamilton Beach Volleyball Club website.

Coaches use a variety of techniques to promote skills development.  With novice players, the emphasis is on introducing volleyball in an environment promoting fun and physical play.  With elite athletes, focus is on skills development using a combination of drills and game based scenarios. MVC programs support the philosophy of
Canada’s Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) Model.
The  Mountain Volleyball Coaching Certification Program ( MVCCP ) is a unique program modelled after the NCCP. It was introduced to support the leadership interests of the club's athletes and aimed at teaching passionate young volleyball athletes to become community and eventually club coaches.

MVC provides elite volleyball opportunities for female athletes seeking to train and compete at a regional, provincial, or national level.  This long term investment approach begins with our youngest teams (12U) and continues to our high performance teams (up to 18U).
